QURBAN COLLECTION CAMPAIGN
Requirements
As practised by the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) annually, this sacred duty has to be fulfilled during the three days of the Eid ul Adha (on the 10th, 11th and 12th of the Islamic month of Zilhijjah). It is only in these days that slaughtering of an animal is recognised as an act of worship.
It is compulsory for every muslim male and female to make this sacrifice in the name of God who;
Ø is of sound mind
Ø has attained puberty
Ø is in possession of nisaab at that point in time (not necessarily for one Islamic calendar year).
Nisaab is the value of excess wealth that makes a muslim liable for zakaat (islamic charity). It is calculated as the equivalent capital value of 87.48 grams of gold or 612.32 grams of silver. In the event of a disparity between the value of gold and silver, the lower of the two values will be used to calculate the nisaab, in the interest of the poor and needy.
Assessment of our 2010 Qurban Campaign
It gives us immense plasure to inform you that no of qurbans distibuted in our 2010 campaign rose by 12% as compared to our 2009 figures - with thousands of qurbans donated from various states of Australia, NSW Islamic Federations and also from overseas.
During our 2010 campaign, our representatives in several Asia Pacific countries distributed your qurbans to poor families, orphanages, mosques, madrasas, hospitals, correction centres and also care facilities.
Qurbans delivered to Pakistan caused great joy and happiness among the Pakistanis, since they assisted them in the most critical times following last year’s floods that claimed many lives and left millions homeless.
Moreover, our volunteers attended the qurban slaughtering and distribution process in Laos, Vietnam and Mozambique. While distributing your qurbans, our volunteers shared the happiness of thousands of people who struggle to live their lives on the poverty line and witnessed their prayers as a result of your donations.
2011 Campaign
![]() |
We officially launched our 2011 qurban collection campaign mid September 2011 as the Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated between 06-09 November 2011.
This year, your qurbans will be sent to Somalia, Mozambique, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.
Remember that the United Nations declared famine in the East African countries in August 2011. Coupled with the worst drought in 60 years, Somalians are currently in urgent need of food and hundreds are dying of starvation and exhaustion everyday.
In addition to your compulsory donations, we therefore encourage you to send nafilah, nazr and aqiqa qurban donations on behalf of the Prophets, the companions of the prophets, deceased parents and grandparents as well as newborn children.
